Sea Paddler Training this time around was a gift of the Gulf of California winds. Within the space of about 5 nm, we had everything from calm seas to light breezes, to 6-foot rollers with whitecaps, to friendly 3-foot beach break. Skills progressed as the conditions did. We even used a downwind run back to camp to play with sails on our kayaks. The perpetual velocity the sails provide is an invitation to play with slicing strokes, like stern rudders, stern draws, hanging draws, and bow rudders.
