Reserva Playa SilvestreFebruary 19, 2023

  • Wild Beach Reserve
  • Utilizing the window of opportunity that we have with FONATUR and SEMARNAT We propose an area for protection, connecting the sea to the mountains and opening opportunities for Loreto.
  • The place has been called Golden Beach, Tripui, Rattlesnake Beach, and Playa el Quemado. It is a unique place for its diversity within a relatively small space and for the connections that exist between ecosystems. It is a strategic place for ecotourism.
  • Why preserve Quemado/Golden Coast? Seven points.
  • 1. Connectivity and biodiversity
  • The Tabor Canyon crosses its plains by a stream that flows into a nascent estuary facing the sea. Ecosystem connectivity is essential for a place's biodiversity and environmental health.
  • It is the place where the mountains come closest to the waters of the PNBL: between Puerto Escondido and Ligui
  • Foxes, deer, bobcats, pumas, and babisuri from the mountains come to the shore to lick minerals. The sea is nourished by minerals and organic matter that come down from the earth, without the pollutants of population centers.
  • The place is flanked by the estuaries of Puerto Escondido to the north and Ligui to the south. Two streams cross it. The northern part is adjacent to a specially protected no-take zone in the Park.
  • Its location provides a variety of micro-environments in a relatively small space.
  • It has a coastal zone with sweet mangroves, a desert zone with mesquites, pitaya agria, lomboy...
  • A large stream with palo blanco, ephemeral plants, the pega pega (eucnide cordata) that the endemic xantus hummingbird likes...
  • An open hillside and dense forest where, within 14 hectares of research, 479 individual (protected) Old Man's Beard plants are found…
  • A beautiful plain with palo verde and cholla...
  • And a developing wetland at the mouth of the Tabor canyon arroyo
  • A strong dew forms at night, nourishing the plants and supporting a robust population of birds, reptiles and small mammals, some endemic to the peninsula and some islands.
  • Due to the proximity of the sea and the desert, there are birds of both worlds.
  • 2. Access to the Park
  • It is a strategic place for access to the PNBL islands, especially for paddlers, who can manage the 5km crossing.
  • Compare that crossing to the crossings closest to Loreto, which are too long and exposed for most tourists
  • The beach enjoys protection from the wind and waves from most directions, which means it offers opportunities when the weather does not permit access elsewhere.
  • It is an access that provides space for primitive camping in a natural environment while one waits for good weather to cross to the islands.
  • It's remote enough that they still feel like they're on a wilderness camping trip, which is very important for some services.
  • 3. The experience of the Park (Parque Nacional Bahía de Loreto)
  • It forms the view from a highly visited area of the Park
  • With the Sierra la Giganta rising to more than 1000m in height in less than 3km from the sea, the landscape is impressive.
  • Maintaining this wild coastline will maintain the wilderness of the Marine Park experience, both day...
  • and night.
  • Those who are attuned to energy fields say that the mountains and islands form a basin that contains healing energy, and this area has been sought as a place of healing.
  • Its natural status will only increase in value as the surrounding area and the rest of the planet become more developed.
  • 4. Economic value
  • A portion of the tourists that Loreto attracts come specifically for the nature and outdoor experiences it offers.
  • Loreto needs hotels and infrastructure, absolutely. It also needs undeveloped coastline and landscape.
  • The 20,000 inhabitants of Loreto benefit. Within these, 143 families directly survive from adventure tourism where the service is outdoor activities or camping on the beach/coastal and desert area.
  • The funds from tourism enter the community through payments to guides, employees, taxi drivers, captains, hotels, restaurants, souvenirs, supermarkets, etc. and circulate to everyone from there.
  • The site offers outdoor activities that are essential for the soul and business of Loreto
  • Groups have come for ornithology and hiking, swimming, snorkeling, mountain biking and horseback riding.
  • If we do not preserve it, we are going to lose tourists who seek such an intimate connection with the wild. Without them, Loreto could lose more than 20 million pesos a year, but it could gain much more if a well-managed natural protected area becomes an attraction.
  • 5. Educational value
  • The coast here is an educational treasure that provides opportunities in many natural sciences.
  • It makes marine environmental education accessible by road, in an area protected from moderate wind.
  • In front of the beach there is a hard coral garden (porites).
  • It's enjoyed by many animals.
  • Various types of algae proliferate, also creating a protective habitat.
  • The training opportunities for paddlesports here are unmatched anywhere in the Gulf.
  • In addition to its incredible view and easy access, it has many useful aspects for learning technique and safety, and progressing from sheltered waters to more interesting.
  • It's an excellent classroom for navigation, with destinations close enough to go practice.
  • The beach also receives weather lessons of mountain and wind
  • and marine weather lessons without having to get wet.
  • It's a great classroom for skills related to a professional outdoor career, like leadership and guiding,
  • hiking, plant and animal identification, camping, Leave No Trace and Wilderness First Responder,
  • All in a location 20 minutes from downtown Loreto.
  • In the sciences, in outdoor activities, and in outdoor professions,
  • and preserving el Quemado/ Golden Beach is key.
  • 6. Social value
  • Not only tourists but also residents enjoy this place and the access it provides.
  • Here people spend time with friends and family.
  • A connection to nature inspires curiosity.
  • Here one relaxes. This contributes to overall health of a person and a community.
  • 7. Long term value
  • The clearer we become about Loreto's unique identity as a sustainable, nature-based, eco-friendly destination for residents and tourists alike...
  • And take care of the limited resources that support it
  • the more valuable it will be in the future as wild places become fewer…and more precious.
  • We request that the land that belonged to FONATUR between Puerto Escondido and Ligüi known as Golden Beach be preserved as a Protected Natural Area from the beach to the mountains, for its conservation, with access to the beach for public recreation and commercial activities
