Sea Leader Expedition

Practice leadership in context or prove your skills

Leadership involves nearly constant decision-making, and there is no substitute for experience to develop fluid decision-making. The Sea Leader Expedition invites you to consolidate your experience in the context of an actual trip. On this 6-day trip, we pull back the curtain and expose the questions we are asking and the decisions we are making. We invite you to take your turn at the helm of the group and reflect on the process.

Sea Leader Expedition is also for experienced leaders to gain recognition and certification as British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leaders, Endorsed Guides, or ACA Coastal Kayak Trip Leaders. (Prerequisites apply.) Skilled paddlers simply interested in a journey with in-depth discussions on leadership are welcome as well.

Those pursuing certifications, endorsement or assessments do need to let us know their intentions at least 30 days before the trip and provide evidence of their prerequisites. You will also have pre-trip homework.

Here is a link to a terrific resource for leaders, British Canoeing’s leadership eLearning online. It’s free.
