A special 2-day event is scheduled March 5-6, 2018 including just coaching. We will base out of Loreto, but travel where we need to for the necessary conditions. Please Contact us for more details if you are interested.
Our regular 6-day course takes advantage of both sides of the Baja peninsula to provide training for advanced paddlers and leaders. Loreto, on the Sea of Cortez, provides rocky features, close islands, and warm water, as well as stunning mountain scenery. Puerto San Carlos, on Madgalena Bay on the Pacific side, delivers current, surf, more reliable wind, and navigation channels. The course often attracts guides from throughout Latin America and around the world, for a rich peer-to-peer learning environment.
Most courses are run by a bilingual coaching team including Ginni Callahan and Marcos Simental.
Sea Kayak Baja Mexico makes BCU and ACA courses accessible to Latin American participants who otherwise have extremely limited access to programs. Therefore, we integrate related programs in this course, such as the BCU’s Foundation Safety and Rescue course and Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning. For those who have already taken these, the and additional practice is a valuable reinforcement of learning.
For the BCU Sea Leader Training to officially count, the BCU 3-star award is a prerequisite. Only those with instructor approval based on familiarity may attend the course without the 3-star sea award, and only for reasons of lack of access to an assessment. They will be assessed during the course (fee applies). If a student does not pass the 3-star assessment, the BCU Sea Leader Training cannot officially count. The experience, however, is tremendously valuable! This is not an assessment for Sea Leader. That is a separate event.
In ACA, we will cover: Level 4 Open Water Skills, Level 4 Trip Leading, Level 5 Rough Water Maneuvering and Towing. Depending on conditions, we may also cover Level 4 Surf Zone and/or Level 4 Tidal Currents.
The Basic price is designed for guides and paddlers who live here, bring their own paddling equipment, can help out with the transportation for others, make their own camping arrangements, and provide their own breakfasts & lunches. (Dinners are included because this is how we gain access to the classroom.) The Inclusive prices cover all transfers, meals, and paddling equipment. Camping is on the lawn at Tripui Resort, with access to a shared shower/bathroom for the first 4 nights. When we move to Magdalena Bay, there is no camping available, so shared lodging will be provided for campers at the waterfront Mar y Arena Eco-Hotel.
Your price will be adjusted after you’ve been approved for the class and chosen your option.
