Efficiency and control
Explore how good technical skills can help you go further with less fatigue. Build a more instinctive mastery of principles and strokes. Plan and execute a trip in moderately protected waters.
Combine a trip with learning the Foundation skills on a Primer-Foundations Course, described on the Loreto Islands Primer page. By utilizing teachable moments, we help raise your awareness and prepare you with specific skills for the situation, which you get to practice immediately and with practical application.
Learning with a variety of different craft, such as canoe, SUP, sit-on-top, sea kayak, and even surf ski, will expand your mastery of paddling in general. It gives a broader appreciation of paddlesports. Skills that are more intuitive to learn in a canoe, for example, translate into better kayak handling expertise.
Many of the sessions in Kayak Foundations feel like playtime. It’s called discovery learning, and kids do it naturally. As adults we sometimes benefit from being guided in play, being given a goal, and suggestions at key moments.
Kayak Foundations does get technical as well. You will go away with safe boat-handling principles, rescue basics, and specific maneuvering skills. And some exercises to work on. Kayak Foundations is just that–a broad base on which to build your enjoyment of paddling. From here, learn to use the wind and waves efficiently. Stay after your course and join us for a Primer trip to put your learning to immediate use.
