World Heritage Land and Sea
Two utterly different worlds, and both uniquely precious. The kayaking portion of this combo takes you into the Loreto National Marine Park on Carmen and Danzante Islands. These islands are included in UNESCO’s World Heritage listing of the Islands of the Gulf, which calls this listing the richest and most varied of any island-sea property on the World Heritage list.
The land portion takes you into the San Francisco mountains of central Baja, and back in time to a forgotten era. Sierra San Francisco is another one of Baja’s World Heritage areas for its giant mysterious Rock Paintings, “Home to a people who have now disappeared but who left one of the most outstanding collections of rock paintings in the world”, according to UNESCO. Ride a mule or hike for 5 days, immersed in a traditional ranching culture and its landscape.
Honestly, we never intended to offer mule trips, but we went ourselves to tick it off the bucket list, and were absolutely enthralled, not just by the cave art and the birds, but even more by the people of the ranch culture that has survived relatively unchanged for hundreds of years in this rugged land.
No riding experience is necessary. If you’d like to hike, good fitness and agility are necessary to manage rough, steep terrain.
